Got a question on rule clarification, comments on rule enforcements or some memorable NHL stories? Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn. Columbus Blue Jackets Jerseys .ca. Its an "Ace" of a day here in South New Jersey and Im in a very happy mood. I recorded my first ever hole-in–one this morning on the par 3, 135 yard fourth hole at the Atlantic City Country Club with an eight iron into a stiff wind and drizzle off the Bay. As they say, even a blind squirrel (or ref) can find a nut once in a while! Enjoy the games tonight. - Kerry Hi Kerry, In seemingly all of his games since the playoffs have started, Brad Marchand has had a talking to by the referee for stick work after the whistle. The commentators keep referring to Marchand getting "a warning." But if this is happening every game, shouldnt these warnings turn into penalties at some point? Does the league allow or encourage officials to pass this type of information on from one game to the next? Thanks,JonathanToronto, ON Jonathan: NHL officials do share information with one another. The fastest lines of communication are the telephone, telegraph and tell a ref! The series supervisor updates each new crew at a game-day noon meeting as to what has taken place in previous games. There are no surprises; especially when it comes to certain hotspots the officials need to be aware of involving players from both teams. The referees want to do their very best to allow the players to play on the edge while maintaining an element of control; especially in a game seven. With regard to game control, the intelligent official will communicate with players and coaches when he deems it necessary to bring their negative emotions down a notch. I often noticed that player aggression could escalate during a shift or subsequent shifts. It was almost like a snowball rolling down a hill that gathered momentum. It was almost predictable as a player became less disciplined and likely to commit an infraction resulting in a penalty call. Im not referring to some spontaneous retaliation or foul but a tendency that players demonstrated to lose their discipline through a series of ragged play. Scrums and confrontations after the whistle are the most opportune time for player hostilities and paybacks to escalate. Scrums take the focus away from playing the game to instead administering punishment or getting even. When that occurs the refs have to take measures to get players refocused; usually with the fear that a penalty will be called to re-establish acceptable guidelines. The most successful refs are the one that get the players to play on their terms without having to continually lay the hammer down! The entertainment value of the game is maximized whenever that takes place. There comes a point though when the communication efforts have no effect and the refs arm must go up to call a penalty. I just dont want to single out Brad Marchand of the Bruins. Brendan Gallagher of the Habs is another pesky little guy that can really stir things up. Both are emotional players that bring plenty of energy to their game and can draw a crowd. Whether it is going hard to the net and making contact with the goalkeeper or initiating contact after the whistle in an effort to draw a foul, both players have earned the right to be on the refs radar screen. Officials develop a working relationship with all players. Throughout that relationship building process a player has to clearly know when a referee means business; when he has had enough and the hammer is about to fall! Speaking from personal experience, players didnt often mistake my piercing look and terse body language or tone for knowing when it was time to back off and take their foot off the gas pedal. When I issued a "warning" to a player I often told him I could be his best advocate or his worst friggin nightmare - the choice was his? A referee can also solicit the assistance of a respected team leader or captain that he has a good relationship with to get his teammate under control before the ref is forced to take action. I often used the coach in this capacity to instill some discipline in one of his players. When I had enough of the scrums (which was very quickly) I went to each coach and told them I had enough and was going to penalize one player only in a scrum. Since it might just be their player I asked them to take control before I was forced to put his team down a man! They usually cooperated; if not it only took one such penalty for them to understand I meant business. What the referees are attempting to do with a player like Brad Marchand is to establish some self-discipline through an element of reason. Reminding the player that taking a penalty will put his team in the hole can be one way to do that as I have described above. It is important for the ref to choose his words wisely and not "threaten" the player with, "If you do that one more time" routine. Game 7 is not the time for any player to test the referees resolve; nor is it the time for the referees to lay the hammer down without some fair warning. I think the message has been delivered and the pests will play their typical game but just on the edge. Talk is often cheap but everything is on the line for both teams tonight! NHL and NHLPA executives are expected to announce on Friday the details of the rekindled World Cup of Hockey, a tournament that will feature eight teams, including two unconventional ones. Adrian Wilson Jersey . Besides Canada, the U.S., Russia, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Finland, the league and union will announce a European All-Star team will participate. That team will be stocked with players who come from countries other than those participating as nations. Also, the tournament will feature a team with North American players under the age of 23. An executive with an NHL sponsor confirmed the details to TSN. The tournament will also feature a best-of-three final, which will help to drive up the broadcast and sponsor rights for the tournament both in North America and Europe. The National Hockey League and its players association have told team executives they hope to generate between $75 million and $100 million from the rekindled World Cup of Hockey. A person familiar with the matter told TSN that the tournament, which is scheduled to be held in September 2016, will raise about half its revenue from the sale of broadcast and internet streaming rights. The NHL and NHLPA have predicted those rights may garner close to $50 million. Its a gamble to spend so much on a tournament like the World Cup when theres no guarantee Team Canada will advance beyond the round robin portion. But if it does, there could be a big payoff in TV ratings. The final of the World Cup will be a best-of-three format, TSN has learned. Besides TV rights, the NHL and NHLPA will also sell sponsorship rights to the World Cup. They anticipate selling to eight premier corporate sponsors and negotiating deals of at least $1.5 million in each category, a source told TSN. The NHL and NHLPA will also garner revenue from ticket and merchandise sales. However, its expected that the NHL and the Players Association will have to pay Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment at least $5 million for hosting the three-week tournament. While executives with the Montreal Canadiens wanted to host some of the World Cup games at the Bell Centre, the NHL and its players union decided to host all of the games in Toronto. That way, if the tournament is a success, they could auction off the rights to host the games in 2019, perhaps, to the city that offers the best revenue guarantee - be it Montreal, New York, Stockholm, Moscow, or another city. To be sure, there are still many unanswered questions about how much profit the NHL and players union will generate from the World Cup. They need to pay for insurance for all of the players. Typically, the NHL and the Players Association buy premiums that offer better coverage than simply career-ending policies. Payouts are rare, but they do happen. The Islanders John Tavares, for instance, was covered by an insurance policy when he was injured during the Winter Olympics earlier this year in Sochi, Russia. The Islanders were compensated by an insurance company for the time he missed. Its unclear how much insurance will cost the NHL and NHLPA. Then Hockey Canada president Bob Nicholson said last August that it would cost at least $1 million simply to pay for insurance for the 47 Canadian players invited to Team Canada workouts in advance of the Winter Olympics. NHL player agent Allan Walsh said some NHL players have been skeptical over whether its a good idea to steer away from the national team concept. Some players believe this should be limited to players playing for their country, Walsh told TSN. What are you playing for if its Team Young Guns or European All Stars? What are you playing for? Thats a problem. Its an issue. Walsh said featuring a young guns team particularly could lead to lopsided scores. The downside is that team gets pounded, Walsh said. I dont think it would have an impact on the players psychology or career - just an impact on the legitimacy of the team in the tournament, when people sit back and say whether this kind of team was a good or bad idea. Still, Walsh and other agents said there could be a great payoff for the league from marketing a team built around young stars like Nathan McKinnon, Connor McDavid and Jonathan Drouin. Walsh said that while some fans have called for the NHL and NHLPA to include teams from Slovakia or Slovenia, that might not be practical, since the tournament is run by the league and its players association - both of which want to use the event to build the profile of their own players, not those playing in leagues overseas. Henley won The Honda Classic in 2014 to earn his spot in the winners-only field. He birdied five of the first seven holes and carded eight birdies in a bogey-free round on the Plantation Course at Kapalua Resort. The 25-year-old played this event last year after winning the 2013 Sony Open in Hawaii. Henley failed to break 70 and he finished in 27th place last year. Sang-Moon Bae is one stroke back at minus-7. Jimmy Walker, a three-time winner last season, carded a 6-under 67. He was joined in third place by Patrick Reed, Scott Stallings, Ben Martin and Robert Streb, who sits atop the FedExCup points list. Defending champion Zach Johnson opened with a 5-under 68. He shares eighth place with world No. 11 Matt Kuchar, John Senden and Chris Kirk. J.B. Holmes, Steven Bowditch, Kevin Streelman, Matt Jones, Brendon Todd and Nick Taylor are one stroke back at minus-4. Henley poured in a 21-footer for birdie on the first and made his second birdie at the third. After a par on the fourth, Henley rolled in back-to-back 5-foot birdie putts at five and six. At the seventh, Henley converted a 32-foot birdie effort to move to 5-under and within two of the lead. He ran off four straight pars from the eighth before he poured in a 26-foot birdie putt on the 12th. Henley parred his next three, including the 15th, where he made a 12-footer for par after losing his second shot in the trees left of the fairway. I was prepared after tthat shot for whatever score I was going to make, and I knew I was just going to keep trucking, said Henley of his second shot at 15. Custom Arizona Cardinals Jerseys. After a trio of pars, Henley grabbed a piece of the lead with a 22-foot birdie putt on No. 16. Henley reached the green in two at the par-5 18th and 2-putted for a closing birdie, which gave him the lead. We had a good wind today and the course is firming up. My second year here, I feel a lot more comfortable, Henley admitted. I feel good (on these greens). I like Bermuda grass. Both my wins have come on Bermuda grass. Seventeen and 18, I hit four perfect shots coming in. Bae also carded his first birdie of the day at the second. He kicked off a hot stretch of golf with a 19-foot birdie effort at the fourth. Bae followed with a 2-putt birdie at the par-5 fifth. The reigning Frys.com Open champion birdied three straight from the fifth, all from 15 to 19 feet out, to make it five in a row. That gave Bae a brief 4-shot lead at minus-6. Around the turn, Bae stumbled to a bogey at the 11th. He atoned for that mistake with a short birdie on No. 14. Bae made it two in a row as he dropped in a 10-foot birdie putt at 15 to get to 7-under. He closed his round with three straight birdies. I started really, really good on the front nine. I made a lot of putts. It was a pretty easy nine (holes), Bae said. NOTES: Henley has the first-round lead for the first time in his career ... Kuchar needed just 10 putts on the front nine, and he finished the round with 26 putts ... Johnson opened with a 67 last year when he beat Jordan Spieth by a single stroke. The Toronto Raptors will try to finish their five-game western road trip with a winning record when they visit the Los Angeles Clippers in a west coast affair Friday night at the Staples Centre. Tom Barrasso Jersey . Catch all the action on TSN starting at 10:30pm et/7:30pm pt. Toronto won at Denver and Utah, but lost in Portland and Sacramento. The Kings loss was the most recent game for the Raptors. Kyle Lowry had 21 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, DeMar DeRozan poured in 18 points and Jonas Valanciunas added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Raptors, losers in two of their last three games. "I didnt think our disposition at the beginning of the game was in fighting mode or hungry mode. We havent done anything, Ill keep repeating this, we havent done anything in this league yet," Raptors head coach Dwane Casey said. The Raptors still lead the Atlantic Division by 3 1/2 games over the Brooklyn Nets and return to Canada for two games before the All-Star break when DeRozan will head to New Orleans. The Los Angeles Clippers will try to put the brakes on a two-game losing streak Friday night against the Toronto Raptors at the Staples Center. The Clippers, who have dropped three of four, lost at Denver on Monday, then fell at home to the two-time defending NBA champion Miami Heat on Wednesday, 116-112. Miami built a 19-point lead, but the Clips whittled it down to two with 1:04 left in the game. Ray Allen buried a 3-pointer and LA never got within four the rest of the way. "Im happy with the fight we had, that says a lot about our team. We just had too many mistakes. I cant fault the effort from our guys," Clippers head coach Doc Rivers said. Blake Griffin tallied a season-high 43 points to go with 13 boards, while Jamal Crawford netted 31 points for Los Angeles. DeAndre Jordan finished with 16 points and 16 rebounds, followed by 12 from Matt Barnes. The Heat shot 69.6 percent (16-of-23) in the opening frame and set a first- quarter team record with 15 assists on their 16 made field goals. They finished shooting 52.6 percent from the field and 41.9 percent from long range. Miami forced L.A. into 20 turnovers. The Clippers beat the Raptors in the great white north on Jan. 25 and have taken four of the last five meetings, including three consecutive victories in Los Angeles. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.MINNEAPOLIS -- Kevin Love and the Minnesota Timberwolves started an important eight-game stretch with an emphatic victory, handing the improving Washington Wizards their worst loss of the season. The Wizards hope they didnt lose something much more important than just one game. Love had 25 points and 11 rebounds, and J.J. Barea scored 17 points off the bench to help the Timberwolves beat Washington 120-98 on Friday night. Ricky Rubio had 11 points, nine assists and eight rebounds in 26 minutes, and Nikola Pekovic added 18 points and 10 boards for the Timberwolves. Minnesota turned the ball over only five times and got 44 points from its long-struggling reserves. "Its no secret we need more production from our bench," Love said. "That really helps out some of the starters, especially when every night isnt going to be great for all of our guys, one through five." John Wall had 26 points and seven assists for the Wizards, who missed a chance to win their fourth straight road game for the first time since March 2008. Nene added 13 points and five rebounds, but Bradley Beal had to be helped off the floor in the fourth quarter with a left leg injury. Beal scored 14 points in 26 minutes, but got tangled up on a screen by Wolves forward Luc Mbah a Moute with 4:25 to go. Beal was knocked to the ground and couldnt put any pressure on his left leg as Jan Vesely and Trevor Ariza helped him to the locker room. "With the knee injuries going on this year in the NBA, you just hope (Beals) isnt one of those ones that (is) devastating," Wall said. Preliminary X-rays were negative on Beals left knee and he will have an MRI on Saturday. "I was just trying to really get up and I really couldnt get up," Beal said. "Was hoping it wasnt anything too serious or too crazy. I mean, I was able to put a little weight on it afterwards. Just have to see with the MRI tomorrow." Beal missed nine games this season with a stress fracture in his right leg, and the Wizards count on his scoring as part of their dynamic young backcourt. Barea shot 8 of 10 andd Alexey Shved scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds to give the Wolves some much-needed balance between their starters and bench. Joe Mullen Jersey. The Timberwolves slogged through a brutal opening two months, weathering injuries to Chase Budinger and Ronny Turiaf and the third-toughest schedule in the NBA to post a 13-15 record. It was underwhelming considering the high hopes they started the season with, but not wholly unexpected given the schedule. Now is the time they have to make a move if they want to be a factor in the Western Conference playoff race. They play six of the next eight at home and face five teams that are currently under .500. The Wolves got off to an awful start Friday, shooting 28 per cent in the first quarter. But they got to the free throw line 10 times to stay close, then made their move in the second quarter with 39 points. "It makes things a lot easier," coach Rick Adelman said of his second-team backcourt. "I like the way they played at both ends of the court. Weve got to get something going when those guys come in." The Wizards, meanwhile, were looking to end a four-game road swing with a statement. They beat the Knicks, Nets and Celtics to start the trip, then had five days off before facing the Timberwolves, and coach Randy Wittman wanted to see his young team build on the steps he believed they took in those victories. Wall scored 22 points in the first half, but just four in the second as the Wizards faded. The Wolves dictated play for most of the night, shooting 38 free throws to just 17 for Washington and outrebounding the Wizards 44-35, including 14-9 on the offensive end. "They were tougher than we were," Wittman said. "They pushed us around. We had no resistance. So weve got to put this game behind us but learn from it." NOTES: Former Timberwolves F Martell Webster scored 11 points for the Wizards. ... Wizards F Kevin Seraphin missed the game with a sore right knee. ... Jamies number grades given are out of five, with five being the best mark. Tuukka Rask, Boston (4) - Outstanding in first period, gave Boston chance to settle in, big saves on Datsyuk and Tatar in second period to keep it close at 2-1. Robbed Abdelkader in OT, cant stress enough how poised he is in the net, makes it look easy, and rarely out of position. Jonas Gustavsson, Detroit (4) - Surprise start, responded well, especially not busy early but showed great poise, no chance on first goal as it was tipped in front. Not overly challenged but got better and more confident as the game went on, Big saves on Soderberg and Eriksson in OT, no chance on the game winner as it was deflected twice. Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles (4) - Locked in early on, with big saves on Burns and Pavelski, explosive saves on Marleau and Vlasic in the third to preserve the lead. He better managed his crease, not as erratic and out of control as we have seen last few games. Antti Niemi, San Jose (2) - Big saves on King and Richards early in game, second goal was stoppable based on a tough angle shot that he is unable to corral, had rebound issues all night long that cost him, not as sharp as he has been in past games. Semyon Varlamov, Colorado (4) - Putting a show on again, the only reason the Avs were in the game after the first period. His crease work is so fast and explosive, very tough to beat him low as well as in tight. Parise, Koivu, McCormick, Spurgeon, Brodziak, Granlund, Moulson (three times) and Pominville for starters had great chances, not much chance on both goals on a one-timer from slot and bad bounce off the back board. He is the only reason this series has been close. Darcy Kuemper, Minnesota (4) - Tough mentally to watch the goalie at the other end standing on his head and face all the shots. He was not busy whatsoever, the goal looked to hit his own man in front and go five-hole, but showed poise when needed to get the win and saved his best work for the last few minutes with big saves on Benoit and OReilly. DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers insisted they were not concerned about their worst skid of the year a few hours before playing the defending World Series champion Boston Red Sox in a rematch of the AL championship series. Derrick Nnadi Jersey . Detroit later showed it still has what it takes to win with strong pitching, big hits and usually sound defence. Ian Kinsler and Torii Hunter hit back-to-back homers in the fifth inning and Victor Martinez cleared the fences in the eighth, helping Detroit beat Boston 6-2 and end a season-high five-game losing streak Friday. "This was a good night for everyone," Drew Smyly said after pitching six strong innings. Detroit had lost 13 of 17 games, including the previous four, since sweeping the Red Sox on the road a few weeks ago. "Ive spoken to players a couple times over this stretch," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. "Theres no reason to throw a fit unless its a lack of effort or concentration. This stretch has not been caused by a lack of concentration or effort." Smyly (3-4) snapped a skid of his own. He was 0-2 in his last two starts, giving up a total of nine runs over nine innings, and was 0-3 in his previous six outings. The left-hander allowed two runs on five hits over six innings and struck out four, walking only one against the Red Sox. "He was locating his pitches and keeping us off balance," Boston centre fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. said after going 0 for 3 with three strikeouts. "He had command on both sides of the plate." Rubby De La Rosa, meanwhile, paid a steep price for letting some pitches sail too high. De La Rosa (1-1) gave up four runs, nine hits and two walks. He had five strikeouts over 5 2-3 innings. In his first start of the season, he threw seven scoreless innings against Tampa Bay last week. "I feel almost 100 per cent like last time," De La Rosa said. "I just missed more pitches." Boston has lost four straight after winning seven in a row. The Red Sox are averaging fewer than three runs during the losing streak. "Offensively, were scuffling," Red Sox manager John Farrell said. "Weve had a rough go with runners in scoring position." The Red Sox hope to end a trend this weekend. In their last seven series, they been swept four times and have won each game in the other three matchups. "We became so accustomed to being consistent," Farrell said. "The last two and a half weeks have been difficult." Kinsler and Hunter cleared the fences during a three-pitch sequence in the fifth, giving the Tigers a 4-1 lead. "They squared (De La Rosa) up when he was up in the strike zone," Farrell said. The Red Sox pulled within two runs in the sixth when Dustin Pedroia reached on Romines throwing error, advanced to third on David Ortizs single through the right side against a shifted infield and scored on Jonny Gomes sacrifice fly. Detroits Ian Krol and Joba Chamberlain each threw an inning of scoreless relief and Joe Nathan pitched the ninth in a non-save situation. NOTES: Tigers C Alex Avila is expected to miss Saturdays game after being hit in the head by Ortizs backswing in the eighth inning, and being replaced by Bryan Holaday. "Hes in a good humour, but he got stung pretty good," Ausmus said. ... Red Sox hitting coach Greg Colbrunn is expected to stay hospitalized in Cleveland for at least another week after he had bleeding in the area between his brain and the thin tissues covering it. Tim Hyers, Bostons minor league hitting co-ordinator, is filling in for Colbrunn while hes away from the team indefinitely. ... Tigers SS Eugenio Suarez was held out of the lineup to rest his sore left knee and Ausmus said he is "hour to hour," when asked for timetable on his return. ... The Tigers will send RHP Max Scherzer (6-2) to the mound against Red Sox LHP Jon Lester (6-6) on Saturday in a nationally televised game. ... They wanted to step up and they wanted to put their football team as the flagship and get them back on the map.Ive always felt B.C. is rich with talent, the university is rich with tradition, and now its just a matter of combining everything (and) changing the culture ... making sure the kids understand what it takes to be successful, and I think Im capable of doing that.Known for his ability to recruit, Nill might have his work cut out for him in the short term. UBC hasnt won a conference championship since winning the Vanier Cup in 1997 and is coming off a 2-6 campaign that cost head coach Scott Olson his job.The Thunderbirds have not had a winning season since 2004 and are a combined 24-56 over the last 10 years, but Nill said there is reason for optimismI can honestly say this may be the most talent-laden team that Ive taken over, he said. I think (its) more or less installing a new culture. Installing a culture of work ethic, of speed, of strength, of accountability.Once the kids realize they need to be accountable to themselves and their teammates, I think youll see a change fairly quickly.Nill spent the last nine seasons with the Dinos, leading them to six straight Hardy Cup titles as Canada West champions and three Vanier Cup appearances.Prior to that, the native of Hanna, Alta., coached the Saint Marys Huskies for eight years, making four trips to the Vanier Cup, including victories in 2001 and 2002.Extremely difficult decision, extremely tough decision, Nill said of leaving Calgary. But I believe as a coach theres 10 years in your career (at one university). I think that once you get to the seventh, eighth, ninth year of a certain tenure, its time to look at another place — something to rejuvenate your desire, your passion for the game. That was a big factor in my decision to come here. The future of UBCs football programm had been subject to a review earlier this year, but Nill said he got assurances that the university and its alumni are willing to do what it takes to be competitive at the national level. Anthony Hitchens Jersey. I have two motives for all my kids: I want them to graduate and I want them to have a shot at a ring, said Nill, who had 23 players drafted by CFL teams during his time in Calgary. If that was too extreme, they had the wrong guy in the meeting ... now Im here to get to work.Canadian university footballs coach of the year in 1999 with Saint Marys, Nill has a career regular-season and playoff record of 130-47. He was 6-2 with the Dinos in 2014 before losing to the Manitoba Bisons in the Hardy Cup.We knew we needed the right leader. We knew we needed an extraordinary coach, said Ashley Howard, UBCs managing director of athletics and recreation. We knew we needed somebody with CIS experience — not just somebody with a proven track record of maintaining success — but somebody who knew how to build teams.Nill said that while focus has to be on recruiting and improving the product on the field, its equally important to build up UBCs alumni association so that the football team can compete financially with CIS powerhouses like Laval, Montreal and Calgary. The universities throughout the country are not prepared to fund (football programs) entirely, so what you need is third-party funding, he said. I was convinced by the athletic department and the backers that I have met that they are ready to go all in in terms of getting UBC football on board and up to the level where it should be.Nill, who said UBC pursued him harder than any other potential suitor has in his career, added hes hoping to get sense of what he has to work with on the current roster over the next three months before spring practice.Im neither soft nor cuddly. Its going to be a situation where the kids are going to have to respond to what I expect. Im a fundamentalist, said Nill. I expect a lot of hard work. I expect total commitment. Im a very logical coach. I look at things and say Logically if youre going to beat the University of Calgary you have to be bigger, faster, stronger. The only way you can do that is through hard work in the gym. If that doesnt work with this current group of young men its my responsibility to go out and get another group. The Wizards and Rockets have identical 21-8 records. The Wizards will also make stops in Dallas, Oklahoma City, San Antonio and New Orleans, and are 7-4 as the guest. They have won three in a row on the road. Washington is coming off a 101-88 decision over the Boston Celtics on Saturday and was paced by Kris Humphries off the bench. Feeling good, its around the New Years, this is when I start to turn up my game, Pierce said. Humphries has picked up his game the last two times out and is averaging 16.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in that span. Wall is averaging 17.4 points this month for Washington, which is 6-2 against Western foes and has won 12 of 15 games. The Wizards are averaging 103.6 ppg in December (14 games). The Rockets made 49.4 percent of their shots, but turned the ball over 25 times, leading to 27 San Antonio points. The game featured 13 ties and 20 lead changes. Too many turnovers, said Harden, who was responsible for nine. That loss was on us. And myself. Howard and Smith each had four turnovers. Houston will also host Charlotte on this quick stay in Space City and has a 10-5 record at home this season. The Rockets and Wizards will play the first of two matchups this season and are slated to meet again March 29 in DC. St. Cheap Dolphins Jerseys . Petersburg, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Bitcoin St. Petersburg Bowl is the nightcap on the day after Christmas, as the NC State Wolfpack tangle with the Knights of UCF at Tropicana Field. NC State went 7-5 during the regular season, which included a 3-5 record in the ACC, giving the team a fifth-place finish in the Atlantic Division. A four-game losing streak from Sept. 27-Oct. 18 had the Wolfpack in a precarious position as far as bowl consideration was concerned. But coach Dave Doerens club responded to win three of its last four games, including the final two over Wake Forest (42-13) and North Carolina (35-7). The Wolfpack have appeared in 27 bowl games in their history, going 14-12-1, They missed out on last years postseason, snapping a three-year run. This is the 10th time NCSU has been invited to a bowl since 2000, and it is the teams 10th bowl game all-time in the state of Florida. Speaking of the Sunshine State, UCF had long taken a backseat to bigger brothers, Florida State, Florida and Miami with regard to notoriety in the state, but things have been on the upswing for the Knights recently. In fact, since 2012, UCF has won 31 games, which is tied for the seventh-most in the FBS. Coach George OLearys squad went 9-3 this season, and finished with a 7-1 ledger in the American Athletic Conference, which tied both Cincinnati and UCF for the top spot. Since the formation of the AAC prior to last season, the Knights are an astounding 15-1 against league foes. UCFs first bowl appearance was in 2005, and it lost its first three postseason ventures before finally getting into the win column with a 10-6 triumph over Georgia in the 2010 Liberty Bowl. Last season, the Knights reached a BCS bowl for the first time in history, as they outlasted Baylor in a wild Fiesta Bowl, 52-42. This is UCFs third trip to Tropicana Field in Tampa for a bowl game, with the last time being in 2012 against Ball State, a game in which the Knights prevailed in a 38-17 final. This game, which came in to existence in 2008, was originally called the St. Petersburg Bowl before changing to the Beef O Bradys Bowl. It switched back to the original moniker last season, and East Carolina beat Ohio University in that tussle, 37-20. This bout marks the third meeting between NC State and UCF on the football field, with the series knotted at 1-1. The first meeting took place in 2007, with the Knights winning, 25-23. The Wolfpack got even three years last with a 28-21 triumph. NC State was certainly productive on offense during the regular season, putting up just shy of 30 ppg behind a balanced attack that generated 206 ypg on the ground and 196 ypg via the pass. The team converted 46 percent of its third-down opportunities, and featured three guys who rushed for at least 495 yards, and four who had a minimum of 319 receiving yards. Shadrach Thornton led the backs with 811 yards and nine TDs, while Bo Hines was the top down-field threat with 42 receptions for 537 yards, but only one score. Matt Dayes and David Grinnage caught five TD passes each from QB Jacoby Brissett, who completed roughly 60 percent of his throws for 2,344 yards, 22 TDs and only five INTs. From a defensive standpoint, the Wolfpack allowed the opposition to put up 27 ppg, with 175.6 ypg coming on the ground and another 197.5 ypg through the air. Foes actually converted their third-down chances at an even 50 percent, and the NC State defense came up with only 19 turnovers. Linebacker Jerod Fernandez stood his ground to the tune of a team-high 76 tackles, and he added two picks for good measure. Safety Josh Jones intercepted three passes, while DE Art Norman led the club with 6.5 sacks. Fellow bookend Mike Rose was credited with 14 of the Wolfpacks 85 TFL. Doeren, who is putting the wraps on his second season in Raleigh, spoke with pride after his team accepted the bid to play in this game. We are both excited and thankful for the opportunity to play in the Bitcoin St. Petersburg Bowl, he said. This is a great reward for our young team that has continued to improve over the course of the season, especially for the 12 current players from Florida who will be able to be home for the holidays. UCF had similar success with regard to putting points on the board this season, doing so for 28.2 ppg. The Knights did it a bit differently however, utilizing the talents of first-time starter Justin Holman under center. Taking over for former star Blake Bortles, Holman hit 59 percent of his passes for 2,661 yards, 20 TDs and 13 INTs. Rannell Hall led the team with 42 receptions, but he did not catch a TD pass and his 422 yards were less than half that of Breshad Perriman who caught one fewer ball but logged 906 yards and a team-high nine TDs. JJ Worton tallied 36 grabs for 514 yards and five scores, while Josh Reese added 33 catches for 477 yards and three TDs. As for the UCF rushing attack, which generated only 3.2 ypc, William Stanback was high man with 659 yards and 10 TDs. The UCF defense stood tall against nearly all comers this season, yielding a mere 17.9 ppg behind typical outputs of 97.4 ypg rushing and 185.4 ypg passing -- all three ranking the team in the top-11 of the 125 FBS teams charted by the NCAA. The defense allowed the enemy to move the chains only 37 percent of the time on third-down conversion attempts, while logging 33 sacks and 27 turnovers. Defensive back Jacoby Glenn picked off seven passes (tied for third-most in the country), while LB Terrance Plummer led the unit with 92 tackles. Defensive linemen Thomas Niles and Jaryl Mamea each had 6.5 sacks. After a 9-3 season we are very happy to go to the Bitcoin St. Petersburg Bowl, OLeary said after accepting the bid. Obviously a bowl game is a great reward for the players, the program and the fanbase. We are very anxious to get to St. Petersburg and enjoy the bowl and its festivities. It will be a great experience for our players and fans. Discount Dolphins Jerseys Online . After two months of mediocrity, perhaps the Washington Nationals have turned the page. Spezza scored a power-play goal with 5 minutes left and Stephane Da Costa had the other two goals to lead the Ottawa Senators to a 3-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night.Bad move! It was -8000°C and we decided to walk around 400 m to our hotel at the airport both Jeff and I had nothing but thin leather jackets while Stuart strutted in his full on goose down parka… Jerk! ;-)The day off was meant to just chill out and relax… Thats all we all did - I met up with a friend for dinner later that night and had a great time but was still very exhausted. The next day was also an off day with one little bit of television to do… Once we completed that we went back to rooms to chill before going out as a band for a nice dinner. After the dinner we headed out to what Jeff thought was an amazing blues bar that turned out to be a completely empty karaoke bar… Oh yes, yes we did! It of course started with the captain joining the karaoke hostess on stage performing amazing harmonies… Then I decided to make my way up and try to harmonize as well instead of just singing a song as you normally would… Yes, I sucked… I sucked horribly! LOL! Stuart took a stab at it but he sang solo so his came off much better than mine but I already sucked so much and that I could not make my way back to the stage… What a great night! The next day we had two separate radio interviews and performances…I once again enlisted my good friend Jennifer to drive us around all day… Huge props have to go up to her husband Gary who always allows me and the band to put her to work and be at our service! Both CITIFM and Power 97 were gracious and well prepared...you both rock Winnipeg, thank you so much! Following the interviews we had the rare opportunity of going to a massive coat factory for some free winter products… This was set up by none other than Howard Mansheim as he felt pity for us silly boys from Ontario in our thin black leather jackets! I got to tell you… I feel pretty special - we got hooked up Yo!Next of course was the sound check and a VIP party with pictures etc.… These are starting to run very smoothly we really appreciate our crew… These guys are top notch and we are running like a well oiled machine. The theatre in Winnipeg is absolutely stunning, almost 100 years old it makes you feel like youre playing to everyone directly in front of you its truly fantastic and its Decour and apparently the sound outfront is outstanding… At least when you come and see The Tea Party!Following the show I held my second post gig off the hook front lounge of the bus daance party… It was incredible! Unfortunately when I have lots of video I cannot share as JM would absolutely kill me…but everyone must know - this man has moves… Sick moves! The party was wild I literally yanked part of the ceiling down better known as the disco light structure . Adam Foote Jersey. .. JM immediately put on his toolbelt and fixed it - he did everything that night he was truly on fire! After a long goodbye to our very dear friends in Winnipeg we hit the road for a day off in Saskatoon. We had one commitment that evening which turned out to be absolutely amazing! Rock 102 had set up a contest for about 25 or 30 winners plus guests… It was at this guitar shop that posted a bar with an incredible stage. Im not talking one of those guitar shops that have the overbearing bright lights and shiny metal objects all over the place - this was a dimly lit cool as hell pub that I would want to hang out in that happened to sell guitars! We did a three song acoustic set that was truly outstanding everyone really enjoyed it, then we hung out for pictures and autographs… Back to the hotel to chill for the night.Good morning Saskatoon… Today weve got a show at OBriens theatre but first we have a television commitment with CTV Saskatoon. The host was incredibly funny think of that guy who played Elaines boyfriend on Seinfeld… Puddy! He was normally just the weatherman but the morning hosts were off that week and he is absolutely hilarious. Onto sound check and the VIP meet and greet this club is sounding really good… Especially since I just picked up my new in-ear system from JH Audio...these bad boys make everything sound even better than what I am normally used to go with my old in-ear system! Come show time we had to run from the bus across 100 m of snow to get into the backstage since there is really no dressing rooms available at this venue… Strange for such a great venue. The show was great - Martin saying like a demon but played guitar even better…Stuart and I were locked in nice and solid, its good to be where we are at at this point in the tour! Once we were done it was back to the hotels for showers and back on the bus for an overnight drive to Calgary… Bam! What was that?! A car just careened into the bus early morning on the highway leading into Calgary - a young girl texting… More details later!Be good to each other.Follow me on Twitter @burrowsdrumsL.A.M.F.JB Authentic Bills Jerseys Dolphins Stitched Jerseys Cheap Patriots Jerseys Wholesale Jets Jerseys Wholesale Texans Jerseys Cheap Colts Jerseys Jaguars Jerseys Store Authentic Titans Jerseys Authentic Broncos Jerseys Authentic Chiefs Jerseys Cheap Raiders Jerseys Chargers Jerseys Store Cheap Ravens Jerseys Wholesale Bengals Jerseys Cheap Browns Jerseys Steelers Jerseys Store Wholesale Cowboys Jerseys Wholesale Giants Jerseys Authentic Eagles Jerseys Cheap Redskins Jerseys Authentic Falcons Jerseys Panthers Jerseys Store Wholesale Saints Jerseys Authentic Buccaneers Jerseys Wholesale Cardinals Jerseys Cheap 49ers Jerseys Seahawks Jerseys Store Wholesale Rams Jerseys Wholesale Bears Jerseys Authentic Lions Jerseys Cheap Packers Jerseys Vikings Jerseys Store ' ' '

WINSTON-SALEM, N. Dallas Mavericks Jersey .C. -- Mike Krzyzewski may have poured too much emotion into No. 4 Dukes trip to Wake Forest. The rest of the Blue Devils didnt seem to have enough. The Demon Deacons upset Duke 82-72 on Wednesday night after Coach K experienced enough dizziness and light-headedness to force him to kneel during a late timeout and skip his postgame news conference. Associate head coach Steve Wojciechowski -- who filled in for him -- says Krzyzewski has not been sick, is in good shape and expects to make a full recovery. "There was a great emotional investment in the game," Wojciechowski said, "and I think maybe the emotion got the better of him." The rest of the team might not have had that problem. Duke (23-7, 12-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) was playing for the first time in over a week -- after going 4-1 in an 11-day span before that -- and Wojciechowski says the Blue Devils simply werent prepared emotionally. After taking a late seven-point lead, Duke went without a field goal for 5 critical minutes while allowing the Demon Deacons (16-14, 6-11) to reel off 17 straight points and go up by double figures. "Im not sure that ... we were as prepared from an emotional standpoint," Wojciechowski said. "I dont know if our guys had the needed edge to compete against a Wake Forest team that played their hearts out." Tyler Cavanaugh scored a career-high 20 points, Travis McKie added 19 in his final scheduled home game and Codi Miller-McIntyre had 13 for the Demon Deacons. They followed one of their worst performances of the season -- a home loss to sub-.500 Boston College -- with one of their best. Their first win over Duke since 2009 also marked their biggest upset since they knocked off No. 2 Miami last February. "I couldnt picture a better ending," McKie said. "Everything was just perfect tonight. The fans were perfect. Me, being my last (home) game, everything we did was great." Jabari Parker scored 19 points and Rodney Hood added 16 for the Blue Devils, who missed six straight shots down the stretch and were just 6 of 27 from 3-point range while falling to 4-5 in ACC road games. Parkers dunk with just under 6 minutes left gave the Blue Devils their largest lead, 66-59, and by then, they appeared on their way to their ninth straight win in the series. Instead, thats when Wake Forest took command. "I knew we were going to win -- it was just one of those feelings that you get down the stretch," Miller-McIntyre said. "You could see it in all of my teammates eyes, that they werent ready to fall over." They didnt. After Devin Thomas and McKie hit two free throws each, Cavanaugh -- a sophomore backup forward -- became unstoppable. His left-handed jumper over Hood, who had four fouls, with 3 1/2 minutes left gave the Demon Deacons the lead for good at 67-66. After Miller-McIntyre hit a pretty crossover layup, Cavanaugh followed by sticking back Thomas miss to make it 71-66 with 2 1/2 minutes left. Coron Williams ended the run with a layup that was goaltended by Parker and made it 76-66 with 1:08 left. At the other end, Duke couldnt do anything right. A key 3-point attempt by Rasheed Sulaimon went halfway down before rimming out -- one of five 3-point attempts the Blue Devils missed during that untimely cold spell. And point guard Quinn Cook had a layup slammed hard off the backboard by Thomas. "All five guys were on the same page today," Thomas said. "We didnt let them get the 3s, because we know they live and die with the 3-ball." Sulaimon finished with 14 points for Duke, which had plenty of built-in excuses for perhaps taking the Demon Deacons lightly. Maybe they were rusty after not playing since a Feb. 25 rout of Virginia Tech. Maybe they were looking ahead to exacting revenge from North Carolina on Saturday night. Maybe they were overconfident after beating Wake Forest by 20 points last month at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Or maybe the Demon Deacons simply arent as bad as their record might indicate. "Heart. We played with heart," Cavanaugh said. "We know we can play with anyone." Williams and Arnaud William Adala Moto finished with 12 points each for Wake Forest, which led for all but about 3 minutes of the first half after holding Duke to one field goal in the first 7 1/2 minutes. They went up by eight points and responded to their only deficit of the half by reeling off the final seven points. Miller-McIntyres steal and layup just before the buzzer put the Demon Deacons up 36-33 -- just Dukes second halftime deficit of the season and first since the loss at Syracuse. "I thought they outfought us," Wojciechowski said. "This time of year, if youre not tough and youre not together for 40 minutes, it can be some very hard lessons." Steve Nash Jersey . The Union looked to have grabbed a big win in the 88th minute when Amobi Okugo finally put the hosts in front. But a terrible giveaway by Union goalkeeper Rais Mbolhi handed Earnshaw the equalizer in the second minute of stoppage time, keeping the Union two points back of fifth-place Red Bull New York for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Calgary finished atop the CFL standings with a 14-4 record and earned the right to host the West Division final at McMahon Stadium on Nov.SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich can rest easy. The screaming criticism and back-slapping encouragement he doles out echo with the Spurs even when hes quietly resting at home.Tony Parker had 27 points and San Antonio held on to beat the Sacramento Kings 112-104 on Friday night — the second straight victory without its veteran head coach.Popovich missed his second game following a recent undisclosed minor medical procedure. His status is unknown for the teams upcoming four-game road trip, which begins Sunday in Boston, but he did visit with the team Friday morning. The fact that he was here this morning speaks for very, very good development of everything, San Antonio assistant Ettore Messina said. I didnt talk to him about it, but I would assume its moving in the right direction. I dont think he likes staying home and watching it on TV.Perhaps not, but he had to find some comfort in how the team performed.Messina helped San Antonio win its sixth straight victory and nine of 10 games after a 2-3 start. While acknowledging the soft-spoken Messina and fiery Popovich have different coaching styles, Parker said they both demand smart play. Were still going to run our stuff, Parker said. Its just a different voice. But I think in the locker room, we have a lot of respect for Messina. The European players, we all know what he did and what he accomplished. Hes definitely big time.San Antonio shot 51.2 per cent from the field, a season high this season against Sacramento along with the 112 points. The Spurs also shot 12 for 24 on 3-pointers and dished out 29 assists on 42 baskets.Kawhi Leonard scored 19 points, Tim Duncan had 18 points and Danny Green had 11 points for San Antonio (11-4).We werent in a position where we needed to be most of the time as far as our rotation, Kings point guard Darren Collison said. You cant do that against a team like the San Antonio Spurs. We werent good last game against Houston and this game against San Antonio we were worse than we were last game. The Kings were without leading scorer and rebounder DeMarcus Cousins, who woke up feeling sick, according to Sacramento coach Michael Malone.Collison and Rudy Gay returned to the linneup for the Kings after both missed the previous two games with injuries. Dirk Nowitzki Jersey. The fact that both of those guys played I think is great, Malone said. They both are not 100 per cent, but when seeing DeMarcus out, they wanted to step up and try to help their teammates. Give them both a lot of credit for trying to gut it out.Gay had 23 points, Collison and Ryan Hollins added 15 points each and Ben McLemore scored 14 for Sacramento (9-7).Collison struggled staying in front of Parker, especially in the opening period. The veteran point guard had 11 points on 5-for-6 shooting in the first quarter and made his only 3-point attempt of the game.San Antonio did allow Sacramento to shoot 50.7 per cent from the field, but it was offset by a rhythmic offence that kept the Kings off balance.Today we were a little different than the games before, Spurs guard Manu Ginobili said. We were talking how reliable we were defensively lately and that our offence was not quite there. Today was the opposite. We shot well. We are shooting probably 30-something and today we shot 50 (per cent) from 3s. (We) moved the ball very well, got a lot of assists. Today, offensively we looked much better.___TIP-INSKings: Sacramento plays 10 of its next 11 games at home after completing their road trip Friday at 2-2. . The Kings are 8-0 when outshooting an opponent, and led in field goal percentage until about midway through the third quarter Friday.Spurs: Duncan has four 20-point, 20-rebound games in his career against Sacramento -- the most he has had against any NBA team. ... Duncan has played in 1,268 games, two shy of tying Boston Celtics legend John Havlicek for third with the most games played with a single team. Kevin Durant withdrew Thursday from the U. Austin Bryant Jersey .S. national team, the biggest loss yet for a weakening American squad that will go to Spain without the leading scorer on its last two gold medal winners. The NBAs MVP took part in the Americans training camp in Las Vegas last week, but then informed team officials that he wasnt going to continue. "Kevin reached out to Coach K and myself this afternoon and expressed that he is just physically and mentally drained from the NBA season and his attention to his many responsibilities, USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo said in a statement. "He tried to give it a go at our recent Las Vegas training camp but felt coming out of camp that he was not prepared to fulfil the commitment he made to the team." Durant was the MVP of the world championship in 2010, leading the Americans to that title for the first time since 1994. The Oklahoma City star also started on their gold medal-winning team in the 2012 Olympics and led the Americans with 19.5 points per game. His withdrawal comes less than a week after Indianas Paul George was lost to a broken right leg and follows previous withdrawals by All-Stars Kevin Love, Blake Griffin and LaMarcus Aldridge, and NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard. "This was an extremely difficult decision as I take great pride in representing our country," Durant said. "I know that I owe it to my USA Basketball teammates to be totally invested in the experience. After going through training camp with USAB, I realized I could not fulfil my responsibilities to the team from both a time and energy standpoint. "I need to take a step back and take some time away, both mentally and physically in order to prepare for the upcoming NBA season. I will be rooting for USAB and look forward to future opportunities with them." The U.S. roster is down to 15 players. The Americans resume practicing next Thursday in Chicago and have to finalize a 12-man roster before the World Cup of Basketball begins in Spain on Aug. 30. The Americans may still be the favourites, but are increasingly beatable with the losses of Durant and George, who were expected to fill the two starting forward spots. Durant carried a young U.S. to the title four years ago in Turkey with a series of sensational performances, averaging 22.8 points and shattering a number of team offensive records. He set the American mark with 38 points in a semifinal victory over Lithuania. At 6-foot-10, Durant is big enough to play as a power forward internationally, creating a matchup nightmare for opponents who cant defend him on the perimeter. He led the tournament in 3-pointers attempted and made in the 2010 worlds. He has averaged 19.9 points in 31 games in a U.S. jersey, shooting 48 per cent from 3-point range. But Colangelo said the Americans understood his need for time off. "Coach K and I fully support Kevin," he said. "His well-being is the most important thing to us and we support him taking the time to get ready for next season. Hes been part of the national team program for eight years and a big part of the success we have achieved, and we look forward to him being part of our success in the future as well. "We are excited about the opportunity ahead of us and to getting back to work in Chicago on Aug. 14," Colangelo added. "All 15 players are committed to the USA Basketball standard, which is to come together to win gold medals." Calvin Johnson Jersey . -- San Francisco 49ers offensive co-ordinator Greg Roman is a finalist to replace Joe Paterno at Penn State, his agent said Monday. Cheap Authentic Lions Jerseys . LOUIS -- St. http://www.cheapdetroitlionsjerseysauthentic.com/ . - Jayden Hart scored once and set up two more as the Prince Albert Raiders downed the host Red Deer Rebels 5-3 on Tuesday to clinch the final Western Hockey League playoff berth. The Philadelphia Flyers will try to get by without their No. 1 goaltender when they visit the New York Rangers on Thursday for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. The Flyers announced Wednesday that Steve Mason will not suit up for the opener of this best-of-seven series. Ray Emery will get the start instead and Cal Heeter, who made his NHL debut Sunday in a loss to Carolina, will serve as the backup. Watch the game on TSN and TSN GO at 7pm et/4pm pt. In 36 career playoff games, Emery is 20-15 with a 2.57 goals-against average, .903 save percentage and three shutouts. He led Ottawa to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2007, but hasnt seen action in the postseason since playing for Anaheim in 2011. Emery was the backup to Corey Crawford in Chicagos run to a Stanley Cup title last spring, but didnt get into a game. "I get excited to play in these situations, especially the playoffs, especially with a group like this," Emery said. Of course, Henrik Lundqvist will be the goaltender across the rink from Emery. The Rangers undisputed No. 1 netminder had another solid campaign in 2013-14, setting club records for regular season wins and shutouts along the way. Although the 32-year-old Swede was 33-24-5 with a 2.36 goals against average and .920 save percentage it still was a down season by Lundqvists lofty standards. His GAA was the highest its been since Lundqvist posted a 2.38 in 2009-10 and the netminders save percentage was his worst effort since finishing the 2008-09 campaign at .916. New York only has made it out of the second round once since Lundqvist took over the starting role in 2005-06, but its hardly been his fault. In 67 playoff games, Lundqvist has posted a 2.28 GAA and .920 save percentage. The Flyers and Rangers have been divisional rivals for decades, but this series marks the first playoff meeting between the clubs since 1997 when Philadelphia downed New York in five games for the Eastern Conference title. Overall, Philadelphia has won six of the 10 playoff series between the franchises and has claimed three straight and four of the past five encounters. The Flyers and Rangers split four meetings in 2013-14, with each team winning twice at its home arena. New Yorks home-ice advantage could loom large in this series, as the Blueshirts have claimed eight in a row at home against the Flyers, who last won at Madison Square Garden on Feb. 20, 2011. The Rangers finished second in the Metropolitan Division and two points ahead of Philadelphia to capture home ice in this series. Flyers captain and star centerman Claude Giroux only managed two assists in the four meetings with the Rangers this season and thats certainly not a good sign for Philadelphia. Cheap Lions Jerseys. Forward Matt Read and defenseman Mark Streit were the best offensive players for the Flyers in the season series, posting one goal and two assists apiece. Meanwhile, New Yorks best weapon against the Flyers this season was speedy forward Chris Kreider, who had two goals and two assists in three games against Philly but does not expect to play in this set. Brad Richards had one goal and two assists over four games, while Rick Nash had a goal and an assist in three outings. Lundqvist went 2-1-0 with a 2.03 GAA against the Flyers this season. Emery did not face New York this season, but is 7-2-0 with a 1.87 GAA in 10 career regular-season games against the Blueshirts. One concern for New York heading into the opening round is the health of No. 1 defenseman Ryan McDonagh, who sat out the last five games of the regular season with a bruised left shoulder. Although McDonagh expects to play in Game 1, it will be interesting to see how his shoulder holds up against the postseason grind. McDonagh led New Yorks blue line this season in goals (14), assists (29), plus-minus (plus-11), penalty minutes (36) and shots (177). He also led the club with an average ice time of 24 minutes, 59 seconds and finished fifth on the teams overall scoring list with 43 points. Rangers forward Derick Brassard left practice on Tuesday with a back issue, but expects to play tonight. Brassard was fourth on the team this season with 45 points off 18 goals and 27 assists. Philadelphias Steve Downie is out with an upper-body injury, but fellow forward Zac Rinaldo could play Thursday after completing a four-game suspension. Rinaldo received the ban for delivering a head shot against Buffalo defenseman Chad Ruhwedel on April 6. New York will host the second tilt of this series on Sunday before the venue shifts to Philadelphia for Games 3 and 4. The Rangers were 20-17-4 as the home club this season, while Philly was 18-16-7 as the guest. NEW ORLEANS -- Tony Parker was causing the Pelicans so much trouble with his dazzling dribble drives that New Orleans best defender, agile big man Anthony Davis, stepped out to challenge the shifty San Antonio point guard on the perimeter during the critical final five minutes. Ryan Suter Jersey . With a shoulder fake to his right and a cross-over dribble to the left, Parker wrong-footed Davis and exploded down an open lane for yet another easy layup. Parker scored 21 of his 32 points in the second half and also doled out nine assists, and the Spurs overcame a 14-point deficit en route to a 102-95 victory over the Pelicans on Monday night. "Tony pretty much carved them up," said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, referring to Parker as "a monster" down the stretch. Tim Duncan scored 16 of his 21 points in the second half, and Marco Belinelli added 13 against his former club. Davis had 17 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks, Anthony Morrow added 20 points and Eric Gordon scored 19 for the Pelicans, who appeared in line for their fifth win in six games when they led by 14 near the end of the third quarter. The Spurs had other plans, outscoring New Orleans 38-19 in the final period. "Finally, in the fourth quarter, we were more physical and played better defence," Parker said. "And we just know how to win. ... In the fourth quarter, when its tight, we know how to execute and we know what we want to do on offence." Duncan had a difficult first half, hitting only two of his first eight shots and even missing a dunk, but looked like his usual self when it mattered. He opened the third quarter by making 5 of 7 shots. Parker added 10 points in the quarter, and his scoop shot had San Antonio as close as 65-62 with 3:13 left in the period. But New Orleans regained its rhythm once more while the Spurs briefly came unhinged. Shortly after Morrows 3 made it 70-62, Parker and Duncan were called for technical fouls on the same offensive possession. Morrow made both free throws, then got fouled and made two more free throws, and New Orleans went back up by 14 on Greg Stiemsmas tip-in. San Antonio simply wouldnt go away, suffocating New Orleans shooters and forcing four turnovers in the first six minutes of the final quarter. "We had some costly turnovers," Pelicans coach Monty Williams said. "A number of our guys, you look at our numbers, we just did not shoot the ball well across the board, in the fourth quarter for sure." The Pelicans has 16 turnovers in all, leading to 18 San Antonio points, and New Orleans made only 8 of 21 shots (38 per cent) in the final period. That, combined with Parkers clutch play, was too much to overcome. "Tony Parker got it going and we didnt corral him enough when he got in the paint," Morrow said. "He just made more plays down the stretch." The Spurs, meanwhile, took over the game with a 12-0 run that began when Patty Mills hit a 19-foot jumper and followed that with a 3. Then Danny Green, back from a broken left hand to play for the first time in 10 games, made his first shot -- a 3-pointer -- on his seventh attempt with 7:24 to go to pull the Spurs to 82-78. Parker completed the comeback a few plays later with his driving floater that tied it at 82 with 5:48 to go. "We played badly for 24-plus minutes -- made a lot of mistakes and finally put a stretch together," Duncan said. "We finally made some shots, honestly. We made, I think, two 3s in a row during the run that were big for us. We just needed something. We needed some kind of spark, some kind of stop-and-score. ... We had a crew in there that did it well." The Pelicans shot nearly 57 per cent in the first half (21 of 37) and led for most of it. Morrow made five of his first six shots and Gordon had 12 early points, including a 3 that put the Pelicans up 54-42 at halftime. NOTES: Green finished with 7 points in 30 minutes in what was his first action since Jan. 12. ... Pelicans G Tyreke Evans played only five minutes, leaving the game for good shortly after hurting his right ribs in a collision with Matt Bonner. ... The halftime performer, tight-rope artist Fletcher Runyan, drew empathetic groans from the crowd when he fell and straddled the rope. After sitting on the rope with a pained expression on his face for several seconds, he gingerly got back up, landed a successful backflip, then smiled and waved as he walked off the court to applause. With the Nets winning streak in jeopardy, Williams scored 23 points, 11 in the final six minutes, to lead Brooklyn to a 104-99 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday night. Augustin each scored 28 points as the Detroit Pistons beat the Houston Rockets 114-101 on Saturday night. Augustin added a season-high 12 assists for one of three double-doubles by the Pistons. Greg Monroe had 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Andre Drummond finished with 11 points and 16 boards. Kyle Singler scored 14 points and Anthony Tolliver supplied 12 for Detroit, which snapped a four-game losing streak and ended a seven-game skid against Houston. We needed this win; it was a big win against a good team, Augustin said. It just builds our confidence and lets us know if we stick together and stay with it, we can beat any team in the league. James Harden left the game late in the second quarter with a bruised left knee, but returned for the Rockets at the start of the second half and went on to score 26 points with nine assists and seven rebounds. Donatas Motiejunas had 21 points and Trevor Ariza added 15 for the Rockets, who had won four straight. Josh Smith missed eight of 11 shots while scoring just seven points in his first game against the Pistons since they waived him in December. Houston cleaarly felt Dwight Howards absence as Detroit scored 58 points in the paint. Marcus Foligno Jersey. Howard missed his fourth straight game with a knee injury. The team held its breath as the training staff huddled around Harden with 4:48 left in the second quarter. Harden went down on a drive to the basket, clutching his knee. I went up to the rim; knee on knee, right on the bone. I couldnt feel my leg, Harden said. My leg was numb for a minute. I was just hoping it wasnt as bad as it felt. I came back here and just took some time. The doctor said its going to be painful for a short amount of time, but you should be alright. So I just took a couple of deep breaths, relaxed and got back out there on the court. The Rockets were down 21 late in the third quarter, but rallied to trim their deficit to 92-88 on a Motiejunas alley-oop layup with 5:58 remaining in the game. Detroit fended off Houstons surge and restored a double-digit lead at 104-94 on two Augustin free throws with 1:41 left. Melbourne, Australia (SportsNetwork. Lee Roy Selmon Jersey .com) - Three members of the Big Four won second-round matches Wednesday at the 2015 Australian Open. Second-seeded former world No. 1 Roger Federer had to come from behind to beat Italian Simone Bolelli 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2, while third-seeded former top- ranked star Rafael Nadal needed all five sets and survived cramps to hold off American Tim Smyczek 6-2, 3-6, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 7-5 at Melbourne Park. The 2014 Wimbledon runner-up and 17-time Grand Slam king Federer owns four Aussie Open titles and was the 2009 runner-up here to Nadal. Federers next opponent will be Italian Andreas Seppi. Playing just his 10th tour-level match since July of last year, Nadal ground out a comeback victory against the world No. 112 Smyczek. I dont know what was going on, Nadal said in a courtside interview. There was imitation, I started to have cramps in different places. I was not in the perfect shape. The 14-time Grand Slam champ and reigning French Open titlist Nadal maintained his record of never losing to a qualifier at a Grand Slam championship, but his win kept fans at Rod Laver Arena on the edges of their seats. The former Oz champ and two-time runner-up triumphed in 4 hours, 12 minutes to set up a third-round meeting with Israeli Dudi Sela. Nadal lost to Stan Wawrinka in last years finale in Melbourne. The Pelicans had seven players in double figures and stayed in the game despite foul trouble all night for big man Anthony Davis. Davis ended up playing the fourth quarter with four fouls, providing enough of a presence on both ends of the floor to allow his teammates to go strong to the hoop. The short-handed Bucks still hung around and Ersan Ilyasovas 3 with 58.7 seconds left got Milwaukee within 100-98. After Brian Roberts missed a layup, Milwaukee had one last chance, but got tied up in the backcourt and turned the ball over with 9 seconds left. Brandon Knight had 22 points and nine assists to lead the Bucks, limited to nine players because of a litany of injuries. They may have missed shot-blockers Larry Sanders (eye) and John Henson (ankle) the most with the Pelicans attacking the basket late. A layup by Tyreke Evans and soft floater in the lane by Roberts sandwiched around a missed dunk by Ilyasova gave new Orleans a 100-95 lead with 1:06 left before Ilyasova redeemed himself with a 3. The surge by the Pelicans answered an open 3 from the corner by Nate Wolters that had drawn Milwaukee within one with about 2 minutes left. But after getting to the hoop for much of the first half with Davis on the bench with three fouls, the Bucks had trouble getting good looks in the lane after halftime. Ilyasova finished with 16 points and nine boards in his first game back since missing two with back spasms. Daviss finished with 12 points and Roberts had 17. John Lynch Jersey. Ajinca came a point short of his career high. The 7-foot-2 centre finished 7 of 7 and stabilized the middle while Davis was on the bench. Averaging just 4.0 points a game coming into the night, Ajinca went 4 of 4 in the Pelicans 37-point third quarter that turned a three-point halftime deficit into a seven-point lead. New Orleans coach Monty Williams sought a quick start on defence from his team after giving up at least 29 points in the first quarters of their two previous games, both losses. The Pelicans heeded their coachs pleas and held the Bucks to 19 points in the first quarter. But with foul trouble plaguing Davis -- the NBAs leader in blocked shots -- the Bucks broke through early in the middle. Nifty interior passing helped get Zaza Pachulia and Ilyasova find room to operate underneath. Knight passed up an open 3 and drove the lane to draw Davis third foul with 6:39 left in the second quarter, just seconds after Davis had returned to floor. Milwaukee took advantage from there and got a boost from Gary Neal on the outside with 11 first-half points to take a 49-46 lead at halftime. Neal finished with 18 for the night. NEW YORK -- The odds are against Alex Rodriguez in federal court as he tries to overturn his season-long drug suspension. Jason Motte Jersey . For the past five decades, the U.S. Supreme Court has set narrow grounds for judges to consider when evaluating lawsuits to overturn arbitration decisions. That position was reaffirmed in 2001 when it ruled against Steve Garvey in his suit against the Major League Baseball Players Association stemming from the collusion cases of the 1980s. "I dont think he has very much of a chance," said Stanford Law School professor emeritus William B. Gould IV, the former chairman of the National Labor Relations Board. "There are many cases that are appealed from arbitration awards, but the case law at the Supreme Court level makes success very much a long shot." The Joint Drug Agreement between Major League Baseball and the players association gives the sports three-person arbitration panel -- the independent arbitrator plus one representative of management and the union -- jurisdiction to review discipline resulting from violations. The union filed a grievance after baseball Commissioner Bud Selig suspended Rodriguez for 211 games last August, and arbitrator Fredric Horowitz presided over 12 days of hearings last fall and cut the penalty Saturday to 162 games plus the 2014 post-season. Rodriguez is expected to sue under section 301 of the Labor Management Relations Act of 1947, also known as Taft-Hartley, which allows actions for violations of collective bargaining agreements. "There are very specific and narrow grounds for overturning an arbitration award," said Jeffrey Kessler, a partner at Winston & Strawn who has represented players and unions in many sports. "Either there has to be a showing of partiality by the arbitrator, or there has to be a showing that there as a manifest disregard of some settled legal principle, or there has to be a fundamental denial of whats called arbitral due process -- the procedures were completely defective -- or it could be in a collective bargaining context a decision thats contrary to what we call the essence of the CBA. So basically there are four targets and they have to hit one of them, and theyre not easy." Garvey had sought about $3 million from the $280 million settlement in the collusion cases. While the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled for Garvey and overturned the decision by arbitrator Thomas Roberts, the Supreme Court reversed. "Established law ordinarily precludes a court from resolving the merits of the parties dispute on the basis of its own factual determinations, no matter how erroneous the arbitrators decision," the court wrote in an 8-1 decision. Rodriguezs lawyers are expected to request a preliminary injunction and attempt to depose Selig -- Horowitz refused to compel Selig to testify at the arbitration, and Rodriguez then walked out of the hearing. MLB may attempt to quash a subpoena and force a judge to rule. "Theres a good arbitrator there, and Im sure he was very careful to pay attention to the record," said George Nicolau, baseballs arbitrator from 1986-95. "No court is ready to overturn that, I think, based on longstanding decisions." The Supreme Court ruled in 1960 that "the refusal of courts to review the merits of an arbitration award is the proper approach to arbitration under collective bargaining agreements. The federal policy of settling labour disputes by arbitration would be undermined if courts had the final say on the merits of the awards." In that case, United Steelworkers of America v. Enterprise Wheel and Car Corp., Justice Stephen O. Douglas wrote "an arbitrator is confined to interpretation and application of the collective bargaining agreement; he does not sit to dispense his own brand of industrial justice." That case was cited by the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in 1976 when it refused a request by MLB to vacate the decision by arbitrator Peter Seitz overturning baseballs reserve clause in the Andy Messersmith-Dave McNally case. FLORHAM PARK, N. Nemanja Matic Jersey .J. - The Broncos braved the cold for their first full practice of Super Bowl week, working in pads for nearly two hours after a 30-minute walkthrough session Wednesday. Denver practiced on the synthetic turf outdoor field at the New York Jets training facility. By the end of practice, the temperature dipped to 21 degrees. "It was great," Broncos coach John Fox said after practice. "Were pretty much weather-proof. We practice in this stuff all the time. Being in Denver, weve played in a few different elements. We practiced numerous times in single digit, played in single digit, played in wind. Weve practiced in snow many times. Were pretty much ready for anything." Fox has chosen not to use the indoor field at the Jets plush headquarters for practices this week, opting for the type of natural elements that will greet his team at Met Life Stadium on Super Sunday. Fox was pleased with the flow after the travel and various commitments connected to playing in a Super Bowl. Wednesday is typically when the focus toward the game increases, given the full-scale practices. "I wanted to see how well they would re-boot, get re-charged and practice what weve put in," Fox said. "They recalled it and it went very well. We had a very good practice." The Broncos had a sense of normalcy on a few levels. Peyton Manning, as usual, was in command and precise with his throws. He seemed unaffected by the elements. "Very sharp," Fox said. "What Ive noticed, he had to get used to weather over the past two years. I think hes done an unbelievable job, which I think people forget." OKLAHOMA CITY -- Kevin Durant put a dazzling end to Memphis gritty comeback. The Grizzlies erased most of a 25-point deficit before Durant, the leagues scoring champion, got hot. He scored 13 of his 33 points in the fourth quarter to help the Oklahoma City Thunder defeat Memphis 100-86 on Saturday night in the opening game of their first-round playoff series. The Thunder already were regaining control in the fourth quarter before Durant took over. He scored 11 points in a 5-minute, 21-second surge that stretched Oklahoma Citys lead from seven points to 14 and put the game out of reach. "We just stayed together," Durant said. "We made plays in the fourth quarter. The third quarter was tough for us, but we stayed together. We didnt stray away." Russell Westbrook had 23 points and 10 rebounds and Serge Ibaka added 17 points and nine rebounds for the Thunder. Zach Randolph led Memphis with 21 points and 11 rebounds, but he made just seven of 21 shots and got into foul trouble in the second half. Mike Conley had 16 points and 11 assists, Marc Gasol scored 16 points and Tony Allen added 13 points for the Grizzlies. Memphis might have stolen the game if not for a miserable first half. "Weve got to make adjustments to get off to a better start," Randolph said. "We cant exert so much energy trying to come back from 20 points. Its the first game, weve got to stick together. Weve been here before, we know what weve got to do and come out and be ready for Monday." Memphis shot just 36 per cent from the field and made just 18 of 31 free throws. "We got good looks. I cant say it was anything other than that," Conley said. "We got good looks. We got some open 3s. Our bigs got some good looks in the post. We just didnt knock them down. We have to be more focused at the line as well. Making free throws is a big deal for us. We got opportunities. Weve got to make them." Oklahoma City was the only home team to win on the first day of the post-season, but the Thunder nearly made it four losses for higher seeds after getting outscored 31-13 in the third quarter. "We didnt want to be the leading trend on losing a home game," Westbrook said. "Were just happy we won a game. We did a great job of just coming out and hitting them first. Theyre a physical team and we did a great job of going by our game plan." The Thunder pushed the pace to take an 8-0 lead, and Memphis called a timeoutt less than three minutes into the game. Axel Tuanzebe Jersey. Conley finally scored Memphis first point at the 9:04 mark after the Grizzlies missed their first five shots. The Thunder led 29-16 at the end of the first period. Oklahoma City shot 52 per cent in the first 12 minutes while holding the Grizzlies to 17 per cent shooting. Oklahoma City continued the onslaught into the second quarter and took a 56-34 advantage into the locker room. Memphis scored the first six points of the second half, and though Oklahoma City quickly called a timeout, the Grizzlies continued their surge. A three-point play by Allen trimmed the Thunders lead to 60-51, and by the end of the third quarter, Memphis had cut its deficit to 69-65. Allen scored nine points in the third quarter, and Randolph scored eight. Memphis held Oklahoma City to 3-for-16 shooting in the period. "I just think as a point guard, my job is to set the tone, and I didnt do a great job of that in the third quarter, of coming out and setting the tone," Westbrook said. "I had a few bad turnovers and kind of let them get easy baskets. Ive got to do a better job of that." The Grizzlies had whittled Oklahoma Citys lead down to three early in the fourth before a powerful drive and jam by Caron Butler brought life back to the nervous arena and gave the Thunder a 74-69 lead with just under nine minutes to play. Memphis Mike Miller came back with a 3-pointer to make it a two-point game, but the Thunder responded with a 13-1 run. Though Oklahoma City held on, Memphis will take confidence from its rally into Game 2. "We see what we did," Randolph said. "I think we cut it down to two, and they made another run, but we see what we can do. We know what we can do and weve got to come like that at the beginning of the game." NOTES: Saturday was the 19-year anniversary of the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah federal building in Oklahoma City. The crowd observed a moment of silence before tip-off. ... Memphis reserve point guard Nick Calathes has been suspended for 20 games for violating the NBAs anti-drug policy, starting Saturday. MADRID - Getafe substitute Baba Diawara scored two minutes from time to salvage a 1-1 draw at home against Cordoba in the Spanish league on Friday. Marshall Newhouse Bills Jersey .Midfielder Patrick Ekeng scored in the 78th to put Cordoba on the verge of its first victory in its first season in the top flight in 42 years. But left back Javier Escudero capped his strong showing by using one touch to cross the ball for Diawara to tap in the equalizer.Getafe almost grabbed the winning goal in stoppage time, when Diawara headed high before Escudero clipped the upright. The draw left Cordoba level on points with four other teams at the bottom of the table before the other four play this weekend.Getafe moved into a provisional 12th place in the 20-team league. Eddie Yarbrough Jersey . On Wednesday night, they showed that stellar defence and a little small ball can get the job done too. LOUIS -- The St.ALAMEDA, Calif. - Of all the lessons Derek Carr has learned in his first NFL season, having a strong relationship with the offensive line has been maybe the most important. The Raiders rookie quarterback has been one of the most well-liked players in the locker room since Oakland acquired him with the 36th overall pick in this years draft. He is as comfortable talking shop with the teams wide receivers as he is joking with the defensive linemen.Yet its been Carrs rapport with the five guys blocking for him up front that has stood out the most — and for obvious reasons. You have to have a great relationship with everybody because that whole team has to believe in you, Carr said Tuesday. But with that said, you want that group to believe in you. Theyre the ones that are going to fight for you, play hurt for you. Theyre going to go that extra mile to make sure youre OK.Carr returned to practice one day after being sent home by interim Oakland coach Tony Sparano when Carr showed up feeling ill.The second-round pick said hes feeling better and expects to start in Sundays season finale in Denver. He even arrived to practice ahead of time to get an early jump on things.I got here early to work out and see how Id feel during that, Carr said. After that I felt pretty good. Felt good at practice. Not 100 per cent, but it felt good to practice and be out here.Carr leads all rookie quarterbacks in yards passing and touchdowns.Hes also closing in on the league record for most completions by a rookie quarterback. Carr has 330 completions and needs only 10 to move past Indianapolis Andrew Luck and 25 to beat the mark established by Sam Bradford of the St. Louis Rams in 2010.Left tacklle Donald Penn said the teams trust in the rookie quarterback developed almost from the instant he first stepped into the huddle with the starting offence. Trent Murphy Jersey. ther Oakland offensive linemen, such as veteran right tackle Khalif Barnes and rookie left guard Gabe Jackson, have echoed similar sentiments about Carr.Sparano has been Oaklands offensive line coach since 2013 and has maintained those duties even after he was promoted to interim coach after Dennis Allen was fired four games into the season. Its Sparanos belief that Carrs relationship with his offensive linemen is important, if not more so, than the one the quarterback has with his wide receivers.Derek makes the people around him better, theres no doubt about that, Sparano said. Any time you can get the respect of the line room the way that hes gained the respect of the line room that says something. Theyre the guys that have to go out there and block it up 75, 80 plays for you. I think those guys would do anything for Derek. We need those guys up front to block and they need to trust whats behind them.Notes: Outside linebacker Khalil Mack was limited in practice with a hamstring injury. Macks injury — which occurred late in Sundays win over Buffalo — was originally diagnosed as cramping. ... CB TJ Carrie did not practice and Sparano said there is some concern the rookie defensive back might not play against the Broncos. ... WR Vince Brown (groin), WR Denarius Moore (knee/ankle), RT Menelik Watson (foot), CB Chimdi Chekwa (hamstring) and TE Brian Leonhardt (concussion) did not practice. PARIS - Defending champion Paris Saint-Germain will look to bounce back from its first defeat of the season when it visits Guingamp in the French league on Sunday. Sammy Watkins Chiefs Jersey . A 3-1 loss to Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday ended PSGs 23-game unbeaten run in all competitions. PSG sits one point behind leader Marseille, which travels to Monaco. Here are some things to know ahead of this weekends games:___SECOND BESTA year ago, PSG led the French league and won its Champions League group. The narrative is different this season as PSG is second in the French league and finished second in Group F behind Barcelona. We created chances but our finishing was not clinical, PSG coach Laurent Blanc said. And I think we could have defended better on a couple of scoring chances for Barcelona.Blanc is facing more pressure since the Parisian club is no longer producing the entertaining style of football it displayed last season.___RIDING THE MOMENTUMMonaco also advanced to the knockout phase of the Champions League and finished top of Group C by downing Zenit St. Petersburg 2-0 on Tuesday. Monaco hopes to carry that momentum into its French league campaign. That has boosted our confidence, Monaco forward Anthony Martial said. I hope well play some nice football (against Marseille).Monaco is playing catch-up because of a mediocre start to the season. It sits in seventh place, 12 points behind Marseille. Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov will likely miss the match after picking up a muscle injury to his right side against Zenit.___COOL-HEADED MARSEILLEMarseille has been holding the top spot since September. However, Ghana winger Andre Ayew refused to get carried away by the idea of reaching the winter break with the lead.Finishing first at the halfway stage does not mean that you are the French league champion, Ayew said. What matters is what will happen at the end of the season. We are not going to think about it now.Marseille has the most prolific attack in the league with 36 goals scored. It last won the league title in 2010.___CARRYING LYONLyon has climbed to third place despite a squad hit by injuries. France international Alexandre Lacazette has kept his club afloat by scoring a league-leading 13 goals and making 4 assists. Its true that theres a certain dependence (on him), Lyon coach Hubert Fournier said. But its the same in a lot of clubs. Real Madrid depends on Cristiano Ronaldo. Alex is not Cristiano Ronaldo, but hes a very important player for us.Lyon hosts struggling Caen on Friday.___THE CORSICAN CURSENot only has Bastia lost its last three matches to drop to last place, the club keeps making headlines for the wrong reasons as well. Club president Pierre-Marie Geronimi was handed preliminary charges on Wednesday for misuse of funds not directly related to the clubs finances. We know were in a tough spot, Bastia coach Ghislain Printant said ahead of its game against Rennes on Saturday. The lads are not giving up.Two weeks ago, Bastia striker Brandao was handed a one-month jail sentence for headbutting midfielder Thiago Motta after a 2-0 loss to PSG in August. In early November, the Corsican club fired coach Claude Makelele following a string of poor results. Two days earlier MacTavish traded lightweight forward Sam Gagner to Tampa Bay for 6-3, 203-pound right winger Ted Purcell. Anthony Hitchens Jersey . Future Hall of Famer Ricky Ray is in his prime and back for a third season in double blue. I kept my eyes focused up on the camera during each approach. I just tried to stay focused on my form, as I didnt know what the ball reaction was. I was quite emotional at the end. I did not actually see any of the shots in the game until I got home and watched the video.Laurent Duvernay-Tardif made it a record-setting final day of the NFL draft. The McGill Redmen offensive tackle went in the sixth round, 200th overall, to the Kansas City Chiefs, making him the fourth Canadian-born player taken, the most ever. All four were selected Saturday, the final day of the draft. "For sure, its a long time to wait . . . but at the same time I was saying to myself, Theres not much financial advantage to being drafted at that point, its more to get a good fit with a team," Duvernay-Tardif said during a conference call. "When I went to Kansas City I really enjoyed my time there and think I developed a good chemistry with the coaches so I was really happy the Chiefs got me." Montreal Carabins offensive lineman David Foucault, a blue-chip CFL draft prospect, will attend the Carolina Panthers rookie mini-camp next week but hasnt signed with the NFL club. The Baltimore Ravens figured prominently in the record day. They took Virginia defensive lineman Brent Urban, a six-foot-seven, 295-pound native of Mississauga, Ont., in the fourth round, No. 134 overall, before picking Winnipeg native John Urschel, an offensive lineman at Penn State, in the fifth, No. 175 overall. Notre Dame receiver T.J. Jones -- another Winnipeg native -- went in the sixth, No. 189 overall, to the Detroit Lions. Last year, Rice tight end Luke Willson, a native of LaSalle, Ont., was the lone Canadian drafted, going in the fifth round to the Super Bowl-champion Seattle Seahawks. But in 2012, four players from Canada were selected. Three Canadians -- defensive linemen Tyrone Crawford of Windsor, Ont. (third round, Dallas) and Christo Bilukidi of Ottawa (sixth round, Oakland) and centre Philip Blake of Toronto (fourth round, Denver) -- were drafted. So was Akiem Hicks, an American defensive lineman who played at the University of Regina (third round, New Orleans). The six-foot-five, 314-pound Duvernay-Tardif, of Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Que., is the 10th CIS player taken in the NFL draft but only McGills second. Randy Chevrier, a defensive lineman/long snapper with the CFLs Calgary Stampeders, went in the seventh round to the Jacksonville Jaguars in 01. J.P. Darche, a former Redmen and Toronto Argonauts long-snapper, signed as a free agent with Seattle in 2000 and remained there through the 2006 season before spending his final two campaigns with Kansas City. And like Duvernay-Tardif, Darche was a medical student who juggled his studies with football. Duvernay-Tardif was twice an All-Canadian at McGill and last year was Canadian university footballs top lineman. He also remained firmly entrenched atop the CFL scouting bureaus top-15 prospects list for Tuesday nights draft but will be a definite future selection now. One adjustment Duvernay-Tardif faces in the NFL is having defensive lineman set up across from him instead of a yard off the ball. But he successfully dealt with that in January at the East-West Shrine game. "I think Im physical enough, I think Im athletic enough," he said. "For sure, it (no yard off ball) will be an adjustment but when I went to the Shrine game it took me a practice to get used to it and after that I was ready to go. "Ill be able to work on technique so when training camp starts I think Ill be pretty used to that." Duvernay-Tardif, a converted defensive lineman, saw his draft stock skyrocket following his pro day in Montreal in March. The Chiefs were among nine NFL teams --Oakland, Philadelphia, Arizona, New York Jets, Green Bay, Chicago, San Francisco and Buffalo were the others -- to attend, along with four CFL clubs -- Montreal, Calgary, Toronto and Ottawa. Duvernay-Tardif didnt disappoint, posting a 40-yard dash time of 4.94 seconds, a 31.5-inch vertical and 34 reps in the bench press. Duvernay-Tardif was bypassed for the NFL combine but those numbers were as good aas any offensive lineman who tested in Indianapolis. Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys. After his workout he visited with nine teams, including Kansas City. But it was Urban who came in as the most highly regarded Canadian. Ravens coach John Harbaugh had given Urban a second-round grade before the draft and was surprised to see him still available in the fourth. "Hes a guy when I first watched him thought second round at the latest," Harbaugh told NFL Network. "This guy is a guy who fits our scheme perfectly, a big, strong guy who fell to us so we couldnt be more happy with him." Urban, 23, started eight games last year before suffering a severe high ankle sprain. He still led all NCAA Division 1 defensive linemen with nine pass knockdowns and was invited to the Senior Bowl but couldnt play in the game due to injury. Urban has been compared to Houston Texans star J.J. Watt, one of the NFLs top defensive linemen, and came into the draft projected as a defensive end in a 3-4 scheme -- three defensive linemen, four linebackers. "We feel like were getting a potential starter down the road as a five-technique," Ravens director of college scouting Joe Hortiz said on the clubs website. "Hes a guy we really liked throughout the whole process." Urban went in the second round of last years CFL draft to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats but returned to school. This marks the second straight year Hamilton has lost a highly touted defensive lineman to the NFL. The club drafted Calgary Dino Linden Gaydosh first overall in 13 but he signed with Carolina as a free agent and spent all of last season on injured reserve after undergoing back surgery. A converted hockey player, Urban took up football his first year at Lorne Park Secondary School. After high school, he attended Virginia and redshirted as a freshman. He served as a backup defensive end for two seasons before starting at tackle in 2012. Last season, Urban recorded 13 solo tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss and a sack. He attended the Senior Bowl but just practised twice because of his ankle injury. Injuries were the major knock against Urban prior to the draft. He suffered a torn ACL in 2010 and played through a wrist ailment in 2011 that required surgery after the season. He had an ankle operation in February and missed the NFL combine but expects to be ready for training camp. "Hes a raw pass rusher," Hortiz said. "The potential is there to give you an inside pass-rush presence." The six-foot-three, 313-pound Urschel was born in Manitoba but played at Canisuis High School in Buffalo, N.Y. He was a captain at Penn State, earned all-Big 10 honours his final two seasons there and was among 15 guards invited to the combine but will likely play centre as a pro. Urschel is more than a football player, having earned a masters degree in math and receiving the Campbell Trophy as U.S. college footballs top scholar. Hes also been published in a scientific journal, prompting the Ravens to ask if football was a priority before drafting him. "I guess I passed with flying colours," he told reporters afterwards. "My intelligence certainly helps. "I feel like I really bring a toughness, a real get-after-it attitude and thats something I take pride in." The six-foot, 195-pound Jones was born in Manitoba but moved to Georgia, where he went to high school. He had his most productive season at Notre Dame in 13 with 70 receptions for 1,108 yards and nine TDs. Jones heads to the NFL with a definite pro pedigree. His late father, Andre, was a defensive end at Notre Dame who also played for the CFLs Winnipeg Blue Bombers. His uncle, Philip Daniels, is a former NFL defensive lineman whos currently Washingtons director of player development. Also, his godfather is former Notre Dame star Raghib (Rocket) Ismail, who helped Toronto win the 91 Grey Cup. ST. DaeSean Hamilton Jersey . PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Rays turned the tables on C.J. Wilson. Evan Longoria hit a two-run homer, Ben Zobrist got four hits and the Rays roughed up the left-hander and the Los Angeles Angels 10-3 on Saturday night. Longoria put the Rays up 2-0 with his 13th homer of the season, connecting in the first inning off Wilson (8-7). Longoria became the first Tampa Bay player to reach 600 career RBIs. Brandon Guyer hit a two-run single that ended Wilsons night during a four-run second that put Tampa Bay ahead 6-0. "Whenever we played Wilson, hes normally got the better of us," Rays manager Joe Maddon said. "It was kind of unusual to see that moment. I know he had struggled a bit before he went on the DL, but nevertheless its still awkward because this guy is so good." Wilson made his first start since July 9 because of a sprained right ankle. He threw a complete game five-hitter to beat the Rays 6-0 on May 17. Over his last five starts, Wilson is 1-1 with a 12.50 ERA. "The overriding theme weve seen with C.J. is just controlling counts and missing spots and not being able to put hitters away," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "I think we saw some of that tonight. He was struggling to find his release point. We need him to figure it out." Chris Archer (7-6) struck out nine over six innings. Logan Forsythe hit a solo homer and Zobrist had an RBI double during a four-run eighth. "The team gave me some wiggle room," Archer said. Howie Kendrick and Hank Conger had RBI doubles in a three-run fourth that cut the Angels deficit to 6-3. Los Angeles had two on with one out in the eighth, but failed to score when Kendrick and David Freese struck out. Angels slugger Josh Hamilton went 0 for 3 with three strikeouts and a walk one day after being hit on the left middle finger by a pitch. Los Angeles reliever Joe Thatcher left in the fourth with a sprained left ankle, which occurred while fielding Guyers bunt single. Scioscia expects Thatcher will be placed on the disabled list. The Rays are 5-3 on a current nine-game homestand. Its their first winning homestand since May 20-25. James Loney added three hits and has reached base in 21 consecutive games. TRAINERS ROOM Angels: Outfielder Collin Cowgill, sidelined by a broken nose, has started a rehab assignment at Triple-A Salt Lake. Rays: Right fielder Wil Myers, on the disabled list since May 31 because of a broken right wrist, hopes to start a rehab assignment next Saturday at Triple-A Durham. Catcher Ryan Hanigan, out with a strained left oblique, started a rehab assignment with Single-A Charlotte. ON DECK Angels right-hander Jered Weaver (11-6) is looking to improve on a 4-4 record in 10 starts against Tampa Bay on Sunday. Rays starter Jake Odorizzi (7-8) has allowed three runs or less in nine straight starts. SMYLY TIME Drew Smyly joined the Rays on Saturday, two days after being acquired as part of a three-team deal that sent ace David Price to Detroit. The former Tigers left-hander is scheduled to start Tuesday at Oakland. MR. POTATO HEAD BP Scioscia wanted a Maddon "Mr. Potato Head" to see what Saturday nights giveaway looked like. The Rays manager, a long-time coach for Scioscia, sent over a full box. Scioscia then sent Maddon a funny video of the Angels skipper using a fungo bat to hit soft tosses of "Mr. Potato Head," around the office. "Mashed potato heads," Maddon said with a smile. Renton, WA (SportsNetwork. Corentin Tolisso Jersey .com) - The Seattle Seahawks continue to take steps towards keeping their outstanding defense intact, with the reigning Super Bowl champions signing pass rusher Cliff Avril to a four-year extension on Friday. The move comes just one day after the Seahawks announced an agreement with linebacker K.J. Wright on a four-year, $27 million extension. Both Wright and Avril were slated to become unrestricted free agents at seasons end. According to NFL.com, Avrils new deal is worth $28.5 million and continues $16 million in guarantees. Avril signed a two-year contract with the Seahawks in March of 2013 and made an impact in his first season with the club, notching eight sacks and five forced fumbles over 15 regular-season games. The veteran end has recorded 4 1/2 sacks and 20 tackles while starting all 14 contests this season. Cliff has been instrumental in what weve been building on the defensive side of the ball and we are excited that he?ll be with us for another four years, said Seahawks general manager John Schneider. He has been relentless in his approach to the game and his passion for winning is contagious. This is another great day for the Seahawks and the 12s. Avril spent his first five NFL seasons with Detroit prior to signing with the Seahawks. The 28-year-old amassed career bests of 11 sacks and six forced fumbles with the Lions in 2011, then registered 9 1/2 sacks the following year. David Alaba Bayern Munich Jersey . Observant Muslims avoid food and liquids from dawn to dusk during Ramadan but can, and often do, skip it if travelling or doing hard physical labour. Some devout Muslim athletes choose to fast during training or competition, but it can create selection difficulties for the coaches in team sports. Halilhodzic, who has testy relations with sections of the Algerian media and its football association, threatened to leave a news conference Sunday if questions persisted on the topic. He said critics were using the issue to "try and raise hatred of me and my family. This is really disgusting." The national football association released a statement denying a report in Algerias leading football newspaper suggesting that Halilhodzic, a Muslim, had ordered players not to fast. Its a potentially sensitive allegation in the mostly Muslim country. The federation said Halilhodzic had been "very respectful" of the religion in his three years at the helm of the national team. The veteran coach, a French-Bosnian, said fasting was a "private issue and players will do exactly as they wish." "When you ask this question you lack respect and ethics. I would like this to stop. Stop this controversy. Talk about football," he said, in response to repeated questions at the official pre-match news conference. "And stop asking me about RRamadan, otherwise I will get up and leave. Kingsley Coman Bayern Munich Jersey. ." The match Monday kicks less than an hour before sunset in the southern Brazilian city of Porto Alegre. The Algeria lineup has been impressive in its three group games, and had its best attacking display so far in a 4-2 win over South Korea. Halilhodzic started that match with five new players following its opening 2-1 defeat to Belgium. They followed that up with a 1-0 win over Russia to reach the knockout rounds for the first time. "We will do everything we can to try and win this match, but (the Germans) are of a higher quality, more experienced and basically better than us," Halilhodzic said. "We shall prepare for this game as the most important in our career. We will give it our all." Algeria shocked West Germany 2-1 in the group stages of the 1982 World Cup, in what was a colossal upset at the time. But the team didnt make it through to the qualifying rounds after the Germans and Austria played out a mutually advantageous result in their last group match in one of the most infamous World Cup episodes. The build up to Mondays match has focused on whether this is now the opportunity for Algeria to avenge what has become known as the "Disgrace of Gijon." But Halilhodzic and Germany coach Joachim Loew downplayed that Sunday, noting that the vast majority of players were not born when it occurred. "This is history. There are many things that occur in football. I would like this wonderful championship to finish in a different way," Halilhodzic said. MILWAUKEE -- Aaron Hill is comfortable at Miller Park. A night after going 4 for 4 with a pair of RBI singles, Hill hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning Tuesday to rally the Arizona Diamondbacks past the Milwaukee Brewers 7-5. "Hes a really good hitter. I know he kills us," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "We make mistakes to him, but hes patient. He fights off tough pitches and he doesnt miss mistakes. At least against us he doesnt." Hill is batting .472 (17 for 36) with four home runs and 11 RBIs in eight career games at Miller Park. Hills home run Tuesday came after Miguel Montero had a tying single. Evan Marshall (1-0) pitched 1 1-3 innings of scoreless relief in his major league debut for the victory. "Evan Marshall was electric in his first big league appearance," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. "He had a little cheering section out there. His parents and his wife were here. He came in and threw the ball like we were told he was throwing the ball down in Triple-A. It was much needed for us." Addison Reed pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record his ninth save in 10 opportunities. Paul Goldschmidt and Chris Owings also homered for Arizona, which has won five of its last seven games on the road. Brandon Kintzler (1-1) gave up the three runs in the eighth. "I feel terrible for letting the team down in that situation," Kintzler said. Goldschmidt hit a two-run homer in the first inning off Milwaukee starter Marco Estrada. The Brewers scored for five runs in the bottom half off Josh Collmenter. "The first inning was not well-played at all," Gibson said. "We gave up four unearned runs. But true to (Collmenters) form, he hung in there. Hes great at keeping his composure." Collmenter gave up just four singles after the first. He departed in the sixth after consecutive two-out singles to Logan Schafer and pinch-hitter Rickie Weeeks. Jarome Iginla Jersey. Marshall came on to record the final out of the inning. Collmenter gave up five runs -- one earned -- and eight hits in 5 2-3 innings. He struck out three and walked one. "I just wanted to give the team a chance to win to try and keep us in it long enough," Collmenter said. "When you get a comeback win like this, its huge for the club." The Diamondbacks entered the eighth trailing by a run. But Goldschmidt hustled for a double and scored on Monteros single. Hill then hit a drive over the left-centre field fence. Goldschmidts first-inning homer came immediately after Arizona challenged a call in which leadoff hitter Gerardo Parra, who had singled, was ruled out at first base on a pickoff. The call was overturned by review. Lyle Overbay had an RBI single, Ownings two-out throwing error allowed another run to score, Jean Segura followed with a run-scoring single and Schafer capped the big inning with a two-run double. Both pitchers settled down after that. Estrada retired 11 of the next 12 batters following Goldschmidts home run before issuing a walk to A.J. Pollock leading of the fifth. Pollack later scored on Collmenters ground out, cutting the lead to 5-3. Owings hit his first big league homer leading off the sixth. "Obviously it feels good. It makes it even more special that we got a win out of it," Owings said. Estrada yielded four runs and four hits over six innings. He struck out four and walked two. NOTES: The Diamondbacks placed reliever J.J. Putz on the 15-day DL with right forearm tightness and optioned pitcher Mike Bolsinger to Triple-A Reno. Clevenger, who is in the lineup while starting catcher Matt Wieters recovers from elbow soreness, hit an RBI double in the 10th inning to extend the Orioles winning streak to five games with a 5-4 victory over the Houston Astros on Saturday night. "Its big, just for the team," Clevenger said. "We were on a four-game win streak, now five. Were never going to give up until the last out and we proved that tonight." J.J. Hardy had an infield single with one out in the 10th before Clevenger hit a double down the right field line off Paul Clemens (0-1). "I was just battling," Clemens said. "I couldnt come in with my fastball at all so thats bad. I was really looking to get comfortable out there. We didnt go to off-speed soon enough. I just kept missing with my fastballs and paid for it. I feel responsible. This is a ball game we should win." The Astros have lost seven of their past eight games. Houstons Jose Altuve hit a two-out, two RBI single in the ninth inning off Baltimore closer Tommy Hunter that gave the Astros a 4-3 lead. However, after a 55-minute rain delay, Astros right-hander Anthony Bass loaded the bases with two outs on two singles and a walk before pinch hitter Delmon Young tied the game with an infield single. "I didnt let them on," Hunter said. "I didnt want them to get on. I actually tried to get them out. They got a couple hits. They got me tonight. Im probably going to come back out and give them hell tomorrow. Thats the only thing I can do." Ryan Webb (2-0) pitched a scoreless 10th for Baltimore. After Nelson Cruz gave the Orioles a 3-2 lead with his 10th home run of the season in the eighth, Hunter entered and allowed a single and double with one out before getting Jonathan Villar to ground into a fielders choice preventing a run from scoring. However, Altuve delivered a sharp single to centre to give the Astros the lead. Astros right-hander Collin McHugh allowed two runs and seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks over 6 1-3 innings. After allowing just one run in his opening two starts of the season, McHugh allowed five runs in just four innings May 4 against Seattle. "Collin did a tremendous job," Astros manager Bo Porter said. George Springer went 2 for 4 for Houston and hit his second career home run after getting his first Thursday against Detroit. With the Orioles trailing 2-1 in the seventh, Hardy led off with a single and then Clevenger also reached when McHugh fell while trying to handle a dribbler. After Steve Pearce singled to load the bases, McHugh allowed the tying run on a wild pitch. The Orioles could not take the lead despite having runners on second and third with no outs as McHugh and left-hander Tony Sipp got groundouts before Josh Zeid struck out Manny Machado to end the threat. The Orioles improved to 17-0 when leading after eight innings. The Astros took a 1-0 lead in the second when Springer homered to left off Gonzalez with two outs. Houston increased the margin to 2-0 the next inning when Villar singled to centre and then took second when Jones bobbled the ball. Villar stole third and scored on a single by Dexter Fowler. McHugh was cruising and retired eight consecutive batters before allowing a walk to Pearce in the fifth. Jones homered in the sixth to pull the Orioles to within 2-1.
